Wazza went out of his way to help us plan the next section of our road trip up north which was very kind and helpful and we were impressed with his outlook on life and his values. Its an amazing place with beautiful timber structures and the portion of river running through Wazza's land is just amazing. We dropped by on a warm February afternoon and Wazza was kind enough to take the time to chat with us, show us around and share some of the history of his amazing property which he has basically built from the ground up. I reached out to Wazza at Platypus Bush Camp to see if any of his huts were available ( because we weren't able to camp ) but unfortunately the cabins were undergoing a refurb so we couldn't stay, however, Wazza being he good bloke that he is invited us to come and say g'day anyway. I had visited Finch Hatton gorge once before by myself as a day trip from Mackay and it was beautiful and so when I had the opportunity to come back with my wife years later I wanted to try and stay in the gorge itself. Once back at camp there is a great swimming hole.īest Falls on the eastern coast and unique camp site. Make sure you take your swimmers (or not) □. Half way you have to cross the rocky stream. Turn right to The Ring of Fire (1.2k) to see unreal water falls. Turn left to head just 400 metres to a fantastic natural waterfall fed swimming hole. There is an unreal walking track that arrives after a few hundred metres at a T-junction. The trick is to stay the night and get up early and head up to the falls. There is no power or taps to plug in but toilets, wash basins and real bush showlers (not for the modest □). Cooking area and a great shared bush fire. My suggestion is if you have a tent, small caravan, camper trailer or car set up for camping (BIG caravans not the go) then call Wazza and book (a must) in for the night ($25). Just after the town of Gargett (heading to Eungella) turn right and follow the signs. If you are heading to Eungella from Mackay PLEASE be sure to leave at least ½ a day to head up the Gorge.
